Thanks fo reading and commenting - and for setting me right on Tremontana, which I have now corrected.

I do love the episode, and every scene between Zedd and Darken, Zedd and either child, and Darken and Milena are pure gold. I agree with you about Violet, and sometimes find myself thinking what it must have been like for her to have lost her mother and been dragged to the mines on her birthday. I think at the age of 9 she would still be salvagable, but, of course, Darken wouldn't care, he just took out his frustration on the only people available to him.

It's strange that the more I watch the episode, the sorrier I feel for Violet, and the more grating I find Rachel - she's just so sweet and perfect. I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority there.

..then the Zedd-puppet blinking I remember the blinking give-away in the commentary, but didn't realize it was already puppet-Zedd. I still thought it was really flesh-and-blood Zedd ( ... )

I think it's puppet!Zedd as soon as the bit where it looks like the Seeker puppet and the Darken puppet are moving by themselves and Zedd says the show it's over. My theory is that's already the puppet, and the real Zedd is still behind the curtain. There isn't really any other time for him to make the switch, I think.

CP said Darken might've taken a bathroom break, fixed his hair or whatever, but I can't see him letting Zedd wander around even then - he'd already have alerted his guards, surely.

I don't find Rachel grating myself, but I can see how one might, because she is just so sweet and adorable and perfect. And also she and Violet are the same age, and I'm sure that Violet is at least emotionally abused, and yet we're supposed to think that she's a little monster and Rachel is the perfect child.

I have more thoughts about this episode, but I should probably try to organize them into my own review ;)

I didn't really pick up on the blinking either until listening to the commentary. But it was a really well acted scene of both Bruce and Craig's part.

You've got all the epic moments in your picspam :D

Yes, Richard as a sniper seemed completely wrong to me, but then that only he could kill Rahl never made much sense anyway (or only he could kill him and have Rahl stay dead, perhaps, since Rahl escapes from the Underworld).

Also, yes, trying to explain how she came into possession of such a precious and recognisable gem would pose problems for Martha! It was a nice gesture but a shortsighted one on Zedd's part :D

I tried to get the highlights, but I wasn't able to squeeze the Darken cutting Milena's wrist scene in.

You're so right about the prophecy that only Richard could kill Rahl - never made much sense.

The sapphire scene always cracks me up, because for a few moments Martha is sort of frowning at it, and I always imagine her thinking "What in the H**l am I supposed to do with that?"

Agreed on all counts. I never quite liked Rachel. She always felt a bit too good to be true. A kid who's seen her family executed and has spent the last few months under the thumb of Violet should really have more trust issues. IF not some acting out around adults who make her feel safe. I get that they added Martha to give her some grounding and somewhere to go after the coup but I don't think it would balance as preciously as they show ( ... )

I'm glad I'm not alone in my distaste for Rachel - based upon everything she's experienced, her behavior doesn't make much sense. And I believe that Violet is played by the better actress.

Meta on Violet and Joffrey - sounds interesting!

In the books it came across like Goodkind hated children in general. There were the good children who existed as plot movers and were out of the way the rest of the time and there were the little monsters like Violet. In the show I keep getting uncomfortable with the difference between how they treat preadolescent boys and preadolescent girls. When you hear about Cara and Kahlan's child selves it's all "She wouldn't even harm a fish!" "She never prayed for anything for herself!" With, I feel, the subtext that they were good kids for being so kind and selfless. With Richard it's all "He stole apples and caught worms." With the subtext that he was a lovable little scamp who broke the rules sometimes but had a good heart. Then there's Aidan from the library episode and Rann and they do things like run away and actively attempt to serve Rahl and act out inappropriately. But they're still shown to be good kids deep down who just need more love ( ... )

It's been awhile since I listened to the commentary....did Bruce say he thought Zedd was manipulative with Rachel? For some reason I'm thinking he did, but it may just be that I was thinking that myself.
I love Milena too. Her whole look, the make up, the costume the way she acted was perfect. Her death was one of the best too.

I think it was Craig commenting on a scene between Zedd and Rachel, saying that Zedd was being a little manipulative with her.
