Fic: Life's Simple Pleasures

The fic was written for a legendland challenge. We were to write a fic based upon a piece of member-created inspirational artwork. The artwork I was given is shown below, and was created  by jlyncss.

LOL :D I love that Darken's so desperate for an apple, and that's why he quits the Keeper ;D

Darken had lost count of the number of hours he had been forced to listen to the Keeper whine about the love of his undead life - the Creator. In Darken’s eyes, it seemed extremely petty of the Keeper to want to destroy everything and everybody, just to get even with an old girlfriend.

Exactly! Proof that the gods are just as petty as people ;)

Darken would throw in his lot with the Creator, join his dear brother, the Seeker of Truth, in finding the Stone of Tears, and together they would save the world.

And this is so sweet - Darken really wanting to help Richard save the world. Together, the Rahl brothers are a match for anything :D

I didn't know what to do with the artwork. I looked at it for the longest time and couldn't think of anything at first, then this came to me.

I felt really bad about it, like it was just terrible or something, and was going to delete it tonight.

Jeez - that sounds so petty and cowardly. I'm so insecure.

People get sick, they have rl issues that come up that take priority. It's also hypocritical, since I have certainly gotten very behind on reading my flist, and then have to do massive catch-ups later.

This whole artwork-inspired thing can be hard, and some pictures are definitely easier to write about than others.

I love what you've done here, though - season 2 Darken always reminds me of that saying, "better to rule in hell than serve in heaven" - and how serving in hell must be the worst of both worlds ;) I think you've really captured that here :D

I suppose one always hopes not everyone will suffer rl issues at the same time. But things do happen, definitely.

Also - I don't know exactly why, but I have noticed that your entries don't always show up on my flist. Sometimes I think that's on purpose, when you have an entry with the date changed, which is a good idea if there are a lot of entries at once. But just in case it's some bizarre LJ wonkiness, I thought I should mention it.

Of course I don't know how many I'm one, but I do know that I've only changed the date of an entry twice in 18 months, so there must be another problem.

Not sure what to do about it though.

Yeah - the picture really just lost me. I researched the apple thing, and I know about red fruit being poison in the books, but I just didn't know what to do with this for several hours.

It certainly left you plenty of scope to play with, being such a plain but striking image. I love the idea of Darken being so obsessed that he actually shoves apples up his sleeves :D And of course it ties in nicely with Darken munching on an apple once he's taken possession of Darken's body and run away from Richard :D
