What do veg*ns eat?

tediousandbrief recently expressed that he has difficulty in understanding how a person can eat meatless meals on a regular basis, let alone all the time. I tend to enjoy recipe posts from my friends and recipe communities, and I also occasionally like to try new (or old and favourite!) things in the kitchen, so I thought I might occasionally do a what-meatless- ( Read more... )

You know the sugar thing is mostly only a problem in the US, UK sugar is not refined in the same way and is mostly vegan. No good for you, but still ( ... )

As the non-vegetarian mentioned in the post, I would say that while I've known a good number of vegetarians in my lifetime, only recently have I came across "more militant" vegetarian/vegans. I wonder if I just haven't come across them before now or if it's becoming more prevalent in general. (Point in case: I don't think it was until this year that I had heard of veg*ns who didn't want to have meat in their house or were offended if someone ate it in front of them.)

'More militant' was probably the wrong way of putting it, I am not running about shouting meat is murder etc. I just meant I have become more vocal and confident about my own choices and opinions.

I don't care what other people eat for the most part, whether with me or not, but I don't have any animal products in my home. I have been vegan for over 10 years at this point so having an animal product free home is not a challenge.

Interesting. What does the gravy taste like? The only think I've had miso is miso soup (mostly from the dried packets you can sometimes get at the grocery store in the Asian isles) so I'm having a hard time imagining it.

I somehow in reading this didn't catch that they were potato wedges until later on. I kept picturing a wedge as in a "wedge of lettuce" since you had mentioned salad at the same time. Clearly it's Monday and my mind isn't reading properly yet.

I can't even explain what the Naam's miso gravy tastes like other than amazing deliciousness. I mean, it's an umami taste. And just really thick and good. Now, I have to admit, I've had miso gravy in other establishments where it hasn't been as good as the Naam's kind. And the Naam's bottled miso gravy is not, as far as I can tell/remember, as good as the kind in the restaurant. It tastes more vinegary, somehow, and like it perhaps has preservatives in it. Which makes sense when you're bottling something to sell. It's still really good, just not up to the standard Naam-ness.

Thank you for linking umami. It has been a long time since I've heard that word and I kinda forgot it.
