My father was involved in a similar case here in Canada -- the landmark right-to-die case involving Sue Rodriguez, who had ALS. Unfortunately, my father won the case, so assisted suicide is still illegal in Canada.
Rodriguez found a sympathetic doctor who helped her die quietly in her home. The police never investigated, and no charges were laid. But it'd be nice if families could get a gurantee that that wouldn't happen in the future.
I grew up in Vancouver, so I know the Sue Rodriguez case -- I even did a project on euthanisia/assisted suicide in sciences humaine 10! Like you, I would be on the opposite side of HR cases from your father.
