Full description tonight, but for now suffice it to say that after being shown the (small) office, I was told, "There won't be much work for you for awhile. Feel free to check your own emails and use the internet because I'd rather you were happy than bored."

It seems like I always have to descend to a state of complete panic before the world suddenly rights itself.

After I've paid my deposit on the new flat (£100) I have £50 to survive this week until my mum arrives on Friday to spoil me. It's enough.

I've been there. And I'm enough of a pessimist to wonder when I'll be there again. I often wonder if we're supposed to reach the lowest level of despair before our hard work pays off. Your law degree will be well worth it.
