Two possible jobs in the wings in Istanbul.

Door number one:Tutoring, live-in, with a family with three children. One of their relatives teaches at the same school as my friend Alex. They have a nanny already who looks after the children. They are offering room and board plus US$2,000 per month for someone to do some tutoring with the children ( Read more... )

It seems like you've typically gone with your gut... or whatever... in the past. And it's worked for you so far. So, my strong opinion is to disregard outside opinions and do what feels most appealing and exciting to you.

That's fairly sound advice. At the end of the day, Bron, you know more about teaching in Istanbul than... well, anyone on your friends list who hasn't done it. :)

If I were you, Door 1 would be my choice.

Reasons:
1. I think you find out more about the culture of a place living with a family.
2. It's much clearer what your free time is, and what you could do with it. And you would be more likely to get evenings and weekends off. (Assuming evenings and weekends are your preferred time off.)
3. Seems like less stress. Although I can imagine one or two scenarios living with another family that involves stress.

I think I'd do #1 - mainly as it'd probably help immerse back into the culture more (and you'd still have time off, however scant). And you'll be doing some outings with the family - so there's a bit of the Istanbul-viewing for you.

All up to you, of course, in the end!
