I've been reading some of these, and wow, woooow, some of these comments really hurt. From what I have seen, I also am quite surprised about the fact that people still need to be told about the more obvious and still pretty ubiquitous biases in the genres.

*snort* Good to know!

The "need" to scientifically establish that somehow reminds me of the study that a Professor at my university did to prove that indeed, kinky people in general are not mentally unstable and survivors of trauma, domestic abuse, or parental neglect and therefore should not be told to seek help.

They're probably still out, collecting the data for that one.

My faith in our psychology department is pretty low because Freud's theories are still on the curriculum. In this study, they talk at length about the psychoanalytic view on the matter, and how it might be wrong. I wish they'd realise that it is unscientific crap, but since there is still one last member of staff who is a student of a student of Sigmund Freud, they seem to feel that they'd be letting their colleagues down, or something.
