Well, that was the original plan, but now that I'm here...
See, basically, the good things about going to Turkey are 1) doing something relevent to the programme I want to get into again (Modern Middle Eastern Studies) and 2) learn Turkish. (Also 3) live in Turkey, but that's both scary and exciting, so we'll say those cancel each other out.)
London is such a gigantic city that I can just about guarantee my capability of securing both Turkish lessons and employment (probably voluntary) in something related to my programme -- I'm thinking perhaps an immigrant resources centre geared towards Middle Eastern or Muslim immigrants. On the extra plus side, I'm near to a whole packet of family, and I'm in England, gaining time towards residency status which would mean I wouldn't have to pay international fees. A Very Good Thing. However, it may not work out, and if not, I've still got a job in Ankara as ultimate fall-back.
