double the penalties imposed on those who use their mobile phones while driving! This after a
cyclist was killed the other day by a van driver who was texting, going at 65mph, on a clear road.
The van driver was a repeat offender, he'd been caught eight times in the past. That's caught eight times. Out of goodness

Trouble is the government is also trying to cut back on prisons and those being sent there. Then people claim they 'need' their cars for their livelihoods (some of them actually do.) And car ownership is so much part of everyday life for so many.
Hah! As is being almost surgically connected to a mobile phone.
But I agree, laws which are there should be enforced (by the police) and backed up by suitable sentences (from the judiciary). I think quite a lot of the time the police don't take cases to court because they realise they have a poor chance of securing a conviction, or that if there is a conviction the sentence will be almost derisory - & that goes for premeditated murder too.
Trouble is, taking cases to court costs a lot of money, so the police are having to prioritise those where convictions are most likely!
And all this in one of the richest countries in the world!!!
