Apparently a lot of childcare costs more than the average mortgage. Which in one way is only right and proper - after all, would you want to leave your children with someone who didn't have a clue? So some women are giving up work to become full-time mothers, for a while at least

I still wonder why the UK government seems to think that getting both parents (if a child has two parents) into paid employment and the child(ren) into some form of full-time care is so much 'better' than encouraging one or both of the parents to look after her/him/them, at least until they start school!
Is it all part of the financial myopia which seems to affect so many these days? 'People must be making money, and paying taxes, otherwise what they do is of no value to the community'?
