the mac os is based on bsd :)
um..as for *nix, not all are created equal and it's definitely not an "install it and forget it" os. It was a massive repository update on mandriva1 that killed typhoid mary. That's not to say it's "bad" because I definitely agree *nix is the way to go (use (k)ubuntu now on defiant but have to run windoze on tesla because clients want stuff done in photoshop, etc.), but one definitely has to be aware of how they have things configured and be mindful with older hardware in *nix.

The Clive James piece is wonderful.
I think his journalism/essays are the best being written at present in the English language.
& he's a bleeding Aussie as well.

I was piss hammered when I installed (k)ubuntu and had it up to most peoples standards within an hour. While that definitely doesn't reflect well on me, it does speak to the recent attempts to make linux more accessible to the average user. Still, I do worry that most users will neglect the daily tlc that any distro requires.

Isn't that sooooo like people? They get so hung up on trivia that they miss the whole point of what you're trying to tell them. *Considers some Church meetings I've attended* Hmmmmmm
