I was a very bad person and watched it this morning without Bobby! I will watch it again with him though, so SHHH don't tell him!
I loved the "Nobody is Nobody" And I had Clint/Coulson pheels as Phil tried to take care of Ward. And in his treatment of Ward. I now want to write a fic where they used MAGIC to bring Phil back. Because they did, and Phil totally knows, which is why he keeps saying Tahiti is Magical. Anyway, and in my fic he doesn't remember a lot of stuff, including his secret relationship with Clint.... but that's just me.
I Really loved it and I did feel like there was some major symbolism with him standing in front of the mural. It felt poignant.
It was not quiet as witty as I wanted it to be, but it was good! I want more. And PHIL. Yum.
It felt a little clunky because they had so much Introducing to do, and I'm sure they were trying to explain the whole premise of everything to people who hadn't seen the movies (or paid obsessive fannish attention to them). Hopefully now they've got the majority of that out of the way we can get on with having actual dialog and plot.
I think you're right about them using magic, or sufficiently advanced technology, to bring Phil back. He was killed by a magical object. I am happy they implanted him with pleasant memories instead of whatever brutal, awful truth they're hiding. It's going to backfire, of course, just like trying to convince Cap he was in the 40's when he woke up, but the thought is kind.
