Well, then why are they killing all the kangaroos? I keep hearing about how sharpshooters are being hired to kill the kangaroos at night, and the roo meat is being exported to China-because those Chinese will eat anything.

When they kill off the national symbol, what's left?

Roos are in plague numbers in many places. Culling is necessary.

Roo meat is delicious and lean, terribly terribly lean.

Better supermarkets carry it.

According to this site,
"Strategies that produce average densities of less than 5 kangaroos per square kilometer would result in minimum densities of less than 2 kangaroos per square kilometer, and could be considered a threat to species conservation(2)."
According to this site, "The government claims that the site is overcrowded, the kangaroos are endangering vulnerable species and moving the animals is too expensive. The real reason for killing the kangaroos is that the site is for urban development."

Meat is delicious and most people claim they can't live without it, but kangaroo meat has been found to be contaminated with toxoplasmosis and other pathogens. Is it really worth it? Even the Russians have rejected roo meat, and have placed a ban on its import.

I would provide more links, but it's after 1 AM here.

If properly harvested and handled, roo meat is as clean as any other wild caught meat. The toxoplasmosis story spreading on overseas vegetarian sites is almost funny. Toxoplasmosis is lethal to marsupials, one of many reasons ustralia should be made cat and fox free. Maybe in a few thousand years the native wildlife will have adapted to the parasite, but in the mean time ot just one more way cats are B-A-D ( ... )
