Behold, a Facebook reply from Zack Stentz, a screenwriter at Dreamworks, when he decided to intervene on a Facebook convo about XMen having underlying gay messages.
I totally agree. On every count. We don't see slash because we want to see it; we see it because it's there.
I found a video on YouTube where somebody (was it Orci and Kurtzman? JJ Abrams?) mentioned Reboot Trek as being a "Kirk and Spock story" and how they meet "and fall in love with each other -- in a Butch and Sundance kind of way." I'm sorry, but the studio let you say that? Really? That's like, like, the Deep Love qoute-level shit there. If you don't want us jumping on a comment about them falling in love, don't say the words, because we know. Even if you backtrack, we. know.
We don't look for slash, it's already there...slashygirl68September 22 2011, 18:05:54 UTC
Wow...this is so true...and I thank you for posting this. It is true though what you say. If they did make a gay movie, everyone would walk on egg shells but if you place it in subtext, they get away with it.
We are not blind you know...we see it..we are not imagining it.
I don't follow the movie Xmen but I give them a big thumb's up to Zach Stentz for saying it like it is. Way to go...
Just ask Boston Legal, they perfected the art of misdirection, which is how they were able to make Alan and Denny flamingos who get married without being labeled as a gay show
Oh, I loved them SO much. (Have you written longer posts about Alan/Denny anywhere? I would be very interested in your insights!)
