Gaywatch: Interview with the Vampire

Apr 03, 2011 19:19

My friend came over last night to watch Mad Men, but we wound up watching Interview with the Vampire. Slightly different bits of entertainment, but that's how we do it. As much as I love Interview, I hadn't watched it in a good long while...and by 'in a good long while' I mean 'since I became a shameless slasher ( Read more... )

When I was fourteen I read the book, being misinformed that there was actual graphic gay sex in thar somewharz . . . alas, no.

But the movie is damn gorgeous . . thanks for reminding me that I need to watch it with my slash goggles on.

ORLY? Gay sex in the book? Mind me asking who's involved out of pure pervertedness curiosity?

Haha, I wish. . . unfortunately I was misinformed about that :-/

Some girl in my school claimed "that vampires were having butt-sex in those books" which made me go ORLY? and read it.

I also read Vampire Lestat after that (in which I noticed kinda dub-con shippy vibes between Lestat and his sire).

If vampires did anything whatsoever for me, I would absolutely watch this. Alas, they do not. (TEAM JACOB FTW I mean, who reads that Twilight crap?)

That said, I must concur with your assessment of Tom Cruise - both as "pure insanity on a biscuit" and as a damn talented actor. He may have me going "What kind of real person believes all that crap, anyway?" but his "You had me at hello" speech from Jerry Maguire has got to rank up there on the list of all-time greatest romantic moments in film. And his Oscar speech in 2002 was possibly the most brilliant thing anyone could have done. For those few minutes, he gave me "just a little bit of magic."

YES, exactly. And he has such a varied body of work it's ridiculous. I just can't throw the baby out with the bathwater, you know?

Yes, exactly. Honestly, that man can jump on every damn couch in the country if he likes, as long as he keeps giving performances like Jerry Maguire and Tropic Thunder. I think he's a hot mess, but by God, he is a talented hot mess.

I assume you've read the books, Interview, Lestat, and Queen of the Damned. The slash in the books make the movie look like an ABC after school special.

Alas, I have not read the books. I do want to read Interview, but I don't think I'll ever be able to stomach reading about Lestat in a rock band. -.-

The rock band arc, though it lasts throughout the book, is a very minor story line. Most of Lestat is the history of Lestat, Marius, Armand, and those that must be kept.
