It was Friday, and Santana was driving Brittany to the dance studio. Inside the car there was a comfortable silence between them, nothing out of the ordinary, except Santana's mind was occupied with Mandy, or more specifically if Brittany was actually going to accept the virtual stranger's offer to go on a date.
"So Britt, what do you want to do this weekend?" Santana asked casually, and then smirked to herself, proud of how she phrased the question.
"Friday and Sunday we can do whatever, but Saturday I'm going out with Mandy, remember." Brittany said, looking at Santana who's stomach churned at the date confirmation, but outwardly only showed indifference, the perfect poker face.
"Oh, I didn't know you accepted her offer."
"Yeah, I called her when I got home and said yes."
"Cool." Santana offered pulling into the studio's parking lot.
"Yeah, I figured why not, I'm not seeing any other girl, and she's defiantly hot enough." Brittany left after that, kissing the Latina on her cheek, then making her way inside.
Santana sighed heavily before driving back to McKinley for cheerios practice.

That day at practice Sue Sylvester was particularly brutal on the squad, citing that their first game was next week. Santana didn't care though, whenever Santana needed to clear her head, a physical activity was the best method to do it, granted she would much rather be at the gym or boxing ring (Santana like to hit things) cheerios was still a good outlet, so while all the other cheerleaders, Quinn included were nearly passed out by the time practice was over, Santana ran 2 extra laps.

The next pebble to be thrown at the glass house that was Santana Lopez came via Kurt Hummel in the form of blunt realization.
It was the Saturday night of Brittany's date with Mandy, and the blonde had insisted both Santana and Kurt help her find the perfect outfit. It had taken the great Kurt Hummel half an hour to assemble an amazing outfit for the blonde; a olive camisole with pale pink lining it subtly, light denim jeans, a light rust colored form fitting coat, and ugg boots identical to the color of her coat.
"Casual, yet fashionable" Kurt had declared once he had laid everything out onto Brittany's bed. Santana had only contributed to the outfit by insisting whatever Brittany wore included a jacket. Kurt arched a perfect eyebrow at the cheerio's suggestion, (it wasn't even cold outside) then simply incorporated the jacket per the Latina's request. After Kurt made sure Brittany had everything she needed, and Santana gave her friend a brand new can of pepper spray to put on her keychain the pair left Brittany's house.
Santana was Kurt's ride, and once again the Latina's head was filled with thoughts of Brittany and Mandy, so much so that she wasn't listening to anything the boy said. When they reached the second stop light Kurt asked, " So you still like Brittany hm?"
That part Santana heard, her eyes bulged out of her head. "You wanna run that by me again, Liza." Santana spat, Kurt looked unfazed by the insult. The light turned green, and Santana continued driving, suddenly really anxious to get Kurt out of the car.
"Oh please, the rest of glee club might of wrote Brittany's little Freudian slip sophomore year off as harmless experimentation and forgotten all about it, but I never forget a good piece of gossip, and since that day I've been watching the two of you, and you both are really so very gay. I'm only surprised that you didn't come out with blondie." Kurt smiled, satisfied with his little rant, he didn't see the death grip Santana currently had on her steering wheel. Santana spoke slow, and through gritted teeth.
"Listen Perez, I'm going to say this once, and only once; .. So this little fallacy you've thought up in that rainbow colored head of yours about me being in love with Brittany is false. And the words should probably never come out of your mouth again, clear?" As if on cue, Santana pulled into Kurt's driveway, stopping so the boy could get out.
"Crystal." Kurt confirmed getting out of the car and shutting the door. Halfway to his door he turns around again.
"Oh and for the record, the word 'love' never came out of my mouth, it came from yours." Kurt turned away from Santana and practically skipped the rest of the way to his front door. Santana sat there, with the engine running stunned. She had said she was in love with Brittany, the realization had hit her like a ton of bricks, and on the car ride home, it took everything inside of her not to break down crying .
The tears never came however, because Santana Lopez was a tough girl. When she was 7 years old her mother died, and that left Santana to be raised by her father. had taught his daughter to be a fighter, no matter what, do what you have to do to get what you want; Santana took her father's word's both literally and figuratively. So when Brittany had kissed her Freshman year in the cheerios locker room after the homecoming game and Santana found herself kissing Brittany back she had fought her own feelings and convinced both herself and Brittany that they were just messing around, practicing for boys, and that when Brittany kissed her her heart didn't skip a beat or two. And what was she fighting for exactly? If you asked her she would say she was fighting to get out of Lima, and to be a successful lawyer, and get married to the perfect guy and have kids; to escape the mediocrity of becoming another life time employee of sheets n' things. And that was the plan, but somewhere down the line Brittany came along and 'her' getting out of Lima became 'us' getting out of Lima, and Santana doesn't know exactly when it happened, but she can no longer picture a husband in her future, the only person she sees is Brittany, but being gay isn't apart of the plan, it makes things too hard, so like most things in her life, Santana fights it.

Three weeks pass, and Santana is still fighting, she fights the urge to hit someone every time Brittany brings up Mandy and another awesome date she took Brittany on, she fights when she and Brittany are alone and says or does something to make her feel like she's the only person who matters in the world, and she fights when Brittany constantly asks her if anything is the matter. Day after day, week after week, Santana fights, mostly with herself, only for the first time, Santana feels like she's fighting losing battle.
They're in the kitchen at a party Matt is throwing because his parents are out of town, the four of them, (Brittany, Santana, Rachel, and Quinn) take a shot of vodka each before settling into conversation.
"So where is Mandy, Brittany? Rachel and I are dying to meet her." Quinn says looping her arm with Rachel's. Santana rolls her eyes, but also takes notice of the affection the two girls had for one another, it was still odd to see Berry and Fabray so close to each other, but Santana figured that it was just a consequence of the two girls living with each other.
"Oh she's on her way, she should be here any minute." Brittany answers in her usual cheerful tone, the fact that Brittany lit up just a little bit more did not go unnoticed by Santana. The Latina quickly poured another shot, and took it alone without hesitation, Quinn shot her a questioning look. As if on cue, a pair of arms coming from behind her snaked their way around Brittany's waist, and a face buried itself in the crook of the blonde's neck, kissing the exposed skin. Brittany let out a giggle and turned around into the girl's arms giving a chaste kiss before turning back around to her friends.
"Guys, this is my girlfriend, Mandy." Brittany said, beaming.
"Girlfriend?!" Santana said shocked. Mandy shook both Quinn and Rachel's hands, offering them warm smile, they offered the same in return.
"Yeah, S. I waited to tell you guys now as a sort of surprise." Brittany touches Santana's arm, and the Latina sort of flinches, which Brittany doesn't notice. Santana's heart clenches at the way the two girl's hands intertwine so easily at their sides. " We didn't even get to interrogate her Britt, there's no fun in that." Rachel adds playfully before Santana can respond to Brittany.
Mandy chuckles slightly, "Feel free to do it now if you want."
Santana, who is starting to feel the effects of the alcohol, and had managed to grab herself a beer off of the counter fires off a question immediately. "What school do you go to, Britt never mentioned."
"I graduated McKinley already, I'm 21. I take some classes at the community college, and I teach some classes at my uncle's dance studio, It's been my dream to be a dance instructor you know."
"Nepotism at it's finest huh?" Santana comments, taking a long gulp out of her bottle.
Brittany frowns slightly, not knowing what nepotism is, but figuring it wasn't the nicest thing in the world considering the way Santana said it. Rachel and Quinn's eyes bulged.
"That's really cool." Quinn added quickly, not wanting an awkward pause to ensue. All the girls continued to talk, but Santana wasn't listening, she would see Brittany constantly trying to make eye contact with her, but the Latina kept looking away, busing herself with drinking, until she cut in on whatever Mandy was saying unceremoniously.
"So you're 21 dating a 17 year old. Is there a specific reason you can't find a girlfriend your own age?"
Santana immediately felt herself being dragged away from the group; at this point she was too drunk to fight off whoever was holding on to her, when they finally stopped outside it was non other than Rachel Berry standing in front of her.
"Santana Lopez, I don't know what's gotten into you, besides half of the alcohol in inside the house but you need to cut it out, did you see Mandy's face after you said that?" Rachel scolded as if she were a teacher scolding a 7 year old. Santana, who was well beyond drunk sported a sloppy smirk on her face, imagining the way Mandy must of looked since she didn't get to see so herself.
"What's the matter with you, why are you being so awful to Brittany's girlfriend?"
The smirk on the cheerio's face disappeared immediately as she spat, " She doesn't deserve Brittany. We don't know anything about that girl except she's probably not allowed within 200 feet of any schools." Santana spat.
Rachel looked at Santana with a mixture of confusion, anger, disappointment, and pity. " Us meeting and liking her means a lot to Brittany, I bet you really hurt her San." Rachel said looking straight at the Latina who had to turn her head away from the brunette's gaze. Looking away from Rachel she saw Puck passing by, nearly empty beer bottle in hand, and barely managed to grab him by the back of his shirt, engaging him in a rough, drunken kiss.
When puck had to pull away for air, grin on his face, Santana caught sight of a shocked Rachel Berry, and farther back, and approaching Brittany, who stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Santana and Puck, and the blonde's face flashed sadness and hurt.
"Santana what the hell", Rachel managed to say finding her words again. Santana's eyes locked with Brittany's for the briefest of moments before she turned to a waiting Puck kissing him once more quickly and declaring, " Take me to Mike's room."
Puck replied wordlessly by chugging the rest of his beer, throwing the empty bottle down, and leading Santana back into the house, towards the upstairs.
