Hmm. Well i've never seen any ice cream at a movie theatre here before.

but we always have chocolate and stuff like that....

yeah i more than likely will use the spelling "doughnut" rather than "donut" just becuase i'm not sure why. but ah well.

Every theater I have been in in the US has candy of various sorts, but not ice cream. However, the ones in our city recently got Dipping Dots ice cream, and I think ice cream sandwitches of some sort. Progress, I suppose.

In a nearby town they have a cinema cafe where you can order pizza and whole meals and stuff and you sit at tables to watch the movie. It's kind of interesting, but distracting from the movie and too much like being in your home only surrounded by annoying strangers, IMO.

I think I use doughnut rather than donut. I guess I don't write it very often so it's hard to say for certain...

In the San Francisco bay area most of the movie theatres I go to offer ice cream. Usually Haagen-Daas, Ben & Jerrys or Dipping Dots (so good!). Most also offer food such as burgers, pizza, hot dogs, nachos, etc. Some do have an ice cream parlor with a variety of scoop flavors.

But more importantly.. I'm an American and the Sainsburys "American style" foods tend to be the grossest options at the store.. mostly prepared in ways I never seen in America EVER in the 20 years I've lived there.

Now if they had real American style pizza..that would be awesome :)

It amuses me highly that Sainsbury's brand American-style pizza is pepperoni and red peppers. I definitely venture to say that that is NOT the most popular topping combo if you ask any pizza parlor. Dunno what the most popular is...maybe just pepperoni on its own or pepp. & sausage?

You can also get slushies/Icees at a lot of cinemas now.

The things that shocked me the first time I went to a UK cinema was 1) assigned seating; and 2) self-service refreshment area! Thought that was an awesome touch. The Odeon in Kingston also has a separate Haagen-Daas shop, but even though I can't specifically remember fancy ice cream in theatres I've been to in the States, this didn't strike me as odd.

Oh, Dipping Dots. I second your parenthetical. Used to be that theatres were the only place you could get them.

I remember getting Bonbons in movie theatres! I loved the peachy ones with vanilla ice cream inside.

Re doughnuts: gotta be yeasty and fried, I feel. Had some Dunkin Donuts for the first time in a million years the other week - an American-style cream donut is a beautiful thing. But they're frosting their french crullers with some orange shit these days.

Has anyone else heard that Krispy Kreme's gone into receivership? What on earth will Winston Salem NC ever be famous for now?

I worked at a movie theater for 6 years and we sold icecream. Kind of. It was sold through a vending machine though. And once apon a time and I think for the first 2 years I worked at the theater, we sold icecream bars.
