Work permit for a student (x-posted)

Hi All!  First time poster, long time watcher...  I have a pretty simple question that I'm uncertain about.  As an American who is coming into the UK for study, do I require a work permit?  I believe the Student Visa says we're allowed to work up to 20 hours during term, etc., so is that it or is there something further?  I'm extra confused with ( Read more... )

I currently have a student visa- if you're approved, the Home Office sends you a Foreign National Identity Card (this is the new requirement for foreigners) with all your biometrics and it allows you to work part time during term time and full time during holidays. You don't need anything else to be eligible for work. If you need any other info let me know. Cheers x

Perfect! So I won't be sent off far away to get this ID card, then? I guess this new system does have benefits after all. I'm still in the application processes but hopefully soon with the visa. Thanks!

You'll probably have to go to the Home Office in Croydon (if you're in London) & get fingerprinted & photographed.

I should be getting that done locally, as it's part of the visa process... biometrics. Ta!
