I'm pretty sure you need a B1 visa for that (be warned, it's more complex than it might be - there are reasons people go for agencies for this stuff, and that reason is paperwork!)
A J-1 (temporary exchange worker) visa might be an option, I know that's what au pairs usually use (but they're usually temporary and I assume you're talking long-term). You'd have to go through a sponsoring program but you don't have to use one of their preferred employers, you can find your own. It needs to be renewed annually at substantial expense, though, and it is non-immigrant.
this isn't a helpful comment. i'm just wondering something. if she was the one who made the offer to have you nanny for her children, and she's aware that you live outside of the US and would need a visa in order to do the job she requires of you, then shouldn't she actually be doing at least some of the research?
