any reason why your employer can't just use a temp agency?

Its a small company. I don't think he was looking for a middle person. Just looking for people who would be willing to do short term work. He only has me and one other person as employees at the moment and is only looking for one or two more people. I am trying to find him a place with a large amount of people willing to do short term work. That is why I thought of BUNAC.

I would try direct advertising on job sites, etc. Also, try universities- some students spend only a very limited time in class and could theoretically work full time or very close to full time.

As far as a BUNAC-like programme goes though, he could always try the Canadian version- SWAP- but Canadians get visas that allow them to work for two years so those participants might not be too keen on short term work.

What I am wondering is if there is some other program, or if BUNAC is still running for EU students who don't have visa regulations, or something.

I'm not sure what you're saying here. All EU citizens can just work in the UK as part of being a European Union citizen which has free movement of workers - they don't need something like BUNAC to allow them.

It's not obvious from your post why you're wondering about BUNAC. Why not just hire someone who's a British/EU citizen temporarily, or who has a visa allowing work, regardless of how they qualify for work? It seems odd to single out BUNAC.

Just looking for someone who wouldn't mind the short term work. Its a small company and there are only two employees. I was trying to think of a sorce where there is alot of people willing to work short term. When I came on BUNAC and did my introduction, there were students there who were not American. Some of them where EU students and some from Commonwealth working on their gap year. I don't know why they went through BUNAC, just that they were there. What I was wondering is if the BUNAC office was still running whatever program those students came over on.

Loads of students look for short term work over holiday periods, or part-time work during term-time. Additionally, with the redundancies hitting the UK and rising unemployment, lots of people are looking for any jobs that will pay.

Also, if there are only two employees, you may prefer to avoid having to check people's visas are valid for your purposes (which can be annoying and tedious).

Lots of people come over from places like South Africa, Australia etc on work visas and look for temporary work while they pass through, I used to manage a bar / restaurant and lots of our staff were travellers looking for short term work, we usually asked they could commit to at least 3 months though, but a lot of visas have restrictions on how long you can stay with one employer so that isn't too bad. Likewise if they are on a student visa or similar they are restricted to how many hours they can work, you need to make sure you check fully before hiring anyone. You could try advertising in TNT magazine or Gumtree.

What kind of work is it? I know a couple people (myself included) that do other things but are occasionally looking for short term work to pad the bank account a bit (I'm in musical theatre, and it's kind of slow right now..).

I was about to say - my boyfriend is currently unemployed, as are many highly-motivated people at the moment, so even short-term employment is unlikely to be turned down! I think the OP's boss should simply advertise the position as usual, there will be plenty of willing applicants.

Indeed. And I know putting it in things like The Stage would get a good response since the entertainment industry is desperately slow right now and lots of actors/actresses are happy to do office work, retail, hostessing or whatever to get through the pinch. As I'm sure are many ex-bankers. *shrug* So maybe the London Paper or something too.

I'm an American here on a student visa who would be interested. I worked for six months at a large British company near Chancery Lane as a receptionist, and have several years of admin experience in the U.S. as well. I don't mind that it would be short-term, so if you still need people I would be happy to submit a CV and contact details to you.

Thanks!
