Question regarding arrival/departure record

Sep 24, 2008 01:46

I went to visit the United States back in July  and came back in early August. It's only occured to me during the past week that I put the wrong flight leaving the United States on my green arrival/departure record as I had a layover in Minneapolis from Los Angeles on the way back to London and put the first flight (LA to Minneapolis) instead of ( Read more... )

i know people get *really* paranoid about dealing with border patrol and customs but i have to say- 75% of the time, i usually end up putting the wrong flight code or flight number on my customs forms (going in or out of the U.S.) and i've never had anyone ask.
They probably keep every one of those white and green forms that we dutifully fill in and hand over but i seriously doubt that the millions of those received at every airport in American every day are actually logged and tracked.

Customs officials are human- and as much as i know people say "don't smile, don't chat with them, don't act friendly" i do.. and they usually process me faster and with a smile on their faces.

Thank-you very much, that's made me feel better.

It was quite interesting when I got into Detroit as I was staying with someone who I met online and the CBP officer told me that most people who are going to stay with people they've met online are boyfriend/girlfriend and then asked me if it was a romantic thing after I told him I was staying with a female friend. I laughed and told him no, then he wished me luck and sent me on my way. Got to customs and they asked me if I had any alcohol or cigarettes. Said yes to the cigarettes (all two packs of them) and then they sent me on my way. I should also mention I'm a white Muslim who wears the headscarf.

Man, I'm rambling now so I'll stop.

I've never had to record the departure flight on a visa waiver, only the arrival flight. They should know which flight you departed on because they should have collected the form at that point.

Or have they changed the form since May?

It's the bottom part, the departure record, on the back there's a section where you have to put the port you left from, your flight number, the date and the carrier.

That's the airline's problem, not yours :-)

This page says:

The departure portion of the Form I-94W and passport is to be in the applicant’s possession at all times until the applicant departs the United States. If an applicant boards a commercial conveyance to depart the United States, the transportation carriers are:

* To remove the departure portion of the Form I-94W from the applicant's passport.
* Annotate the reverse of the departure portion of the Form I-94W with the facts of the applicant’s departure from the United States.
* Return the departure portion of the Form I-94W to the nearest CBP office.

Your job is to make sure they take it. If you leave via the Canadian or Mexican border then yes, you have to hand it over.

Ah fantastic, thank-you very much, I thought I had read something somewhere about that. I shall book my next ticket to the United States without worry. Thanks again.
