Update on the Fuzzinator

It's been mostly good here. Woozle had two surgeries this week, though. I spent almost $900 on the little old guy. Let me see if I can summarize. You know me, long-winded!

I noticed early last week that a collar I bought online looked "wrinkly" and examined him. It had shrunk, or he had grown, because his little neck had chafing. I felt like a ( Read more... )

Give the ol fuzzbutt ear scritchings from me. I'm glad to hear he's finally on the mend now.

Will do!

He was already spoilt rotten. I can only imagine the amount of indulgence he's going to enjoy from here on out.

:)

Time to go cuddle him again. He had to have another kibble break. Also, he has decided that he prefers to drink from the top of the water bottle, not the nozzle, which means he has to be held for five minutes, in mid-air, until he decides he's done or starts using it as a toy or bath instead of a drinking source. Silly beast.

It doesn't explain his rudeness, but I want to believe that the bad vet didn't actually close the incision, that he had a tech do it and that's why it was shoddy. Poor little ferret...

I hadn't considered that, but you may well be right.

I checked in with Dr Sparks' office this morning, and he doesn't need to go see her until his next checkup, which would be in April or May. He hasw three more doses of NASTY NASTY Baytril, one more dose of Metacam, and then his internal stitches should just be absorbed naturally.

I keep hoping that because I caught the insulinoma right away that his long-term prognosis will be better than a mere year or year and a half, as I keep seeing online that ferret + insulinoma + surgery = still dead in about 465 days, on average. The meds therapy gives them a life expectancy of only about 230 days, in comparison. Poor little man. Glad I went with surgery.

Dr Sparks' tech told me I could go back to Dr Gall for his next checkup if I wanted to (!), and I said "No thanks, I won't be seeing him again: no offense to him, but I prefer you guys BY FAR."

SRSLY. As if. >.

Yep! He went with me, again, to school for observation and shouldn't have to come back with me tomorrow. I'm half relieved, half sad. It's been nice introducing him to other students, having a sleeping fuzzy on my lap or around my neck during class, and watching him explore everything. He was clearly full of bounce and spirit.

He walked on his lead in the courtyard and busily dug a few trenches, sniffed a few shoes, ate and drank, climbed stairs, and pooped a poop almost as big as he is in the grass. Where he held all of it, I can't imagine.

The difference between the experiences he had with vet #1 and vet #2 continues to be underscored. He was a very lethargic, sad, grumbly guy after vet #1. After vet #2, he was trying to play even before the anaesthesia completely wore off.

I think it's funny that your mother was so upset over you spending $900 on your ferret. She must not be a pet owner. It's amazing how much time, worry and expense we lavish on our pets, even at the expense of our own health and sanity.

Sounds like Woozle's a scrappy little guy. Who knows? Maybe he'll beat the post-op odds and live for years and years. I wouldn't give up hope.

I guess this year hasn't exactly been kind to your pocketbook, with your electronics getting fried, the vet bills, and being a grad student on top of that. I'll send positive thoughts your way. Maybe you should put a PayPal donation jar at the top of your LiveJournal page. Or institute some pay cuts to your panel of experts. I'm sure Mr. Meezers can deal with switching to a cheaper brand of cat food for a while. And it's not like Paul Lynde isn't just wasting all that money on booze, pills and cigarettes.
