The Adventures of Holiday Traveling (Part 1): Airport Hell

Dec 31, 2007 02:40

Finally...after a week and a half, I'm able to use the internet. The next two days after I posted were probably the worst in my life. Here's why:

The night before I left Boston, I got hardly any sleep. My bed was empty of any sheets and covered with packed bags and while my roommate offered her bed (she left two nights before), I was still very sick ( Read more... )

How good that it's all over!

I think it's generally better in Europe, although my family has experienced losing baggage, delays of six hours and the usual stuff, the biggest problem was probably my granny ending up in a completely different country (the plane was supposed to take her to Spain, but it took her England instead).

Whoa... O_o
That *is* scary. I can see why you hate airports.
I was slightly annoyed at the idea of waiting around for 3 and 5 hours in Detroit - but this makes me glad to have that extra time... damn..

One of my LJ friends did end up spending Christmas in an airport this year because her flight to Spain (where her parents live) was delayed! Your experience sounds just as bad, though. I've had my share of bad travel experiences. Once I was pickpocketed somewhere between getting on the plane at La Guardia and getting to my second gate at O'Hare, which left me with no ID or boarding pass when our flight was canceled. I was terrified that we'd be put on a flight the next morning and I wouldn't be let past security with no ID, but fortunately we ended up taking a bus home instead (Chicago is about a 3-hour drive away.) The airline actually found and returned my wallet, since the thief was obviously disappointed to find no cash, credit, or debit cards. The only thing I lost was a gift card with $5 or so left on it, but I was immensely happy to get my library card, school ID, and bus pass back ( ... )
