On Education and Political Decision Making

Presidential elections always make me stop and think about political process.  This cycle I've been particularly struck by how people get information on political candidates and issues.  I've spent some time examining my own process and given thought to how I make decisions, how I cast my vote and even if I am giving enough consideration and ( Read more... )

Teachers like that should be sainted! We're all very lucky when we run into one. Mine was Mr. Clute, Sophomore and Jr. English.

What a cool teacher he must have been. My favorite teacher was Mr. Acklin (bio, advanced bio, girl's basketball coach and track coach). One thing I remember, when I asked a question that was beyond the scope of the class (most teachers would have replied--("not on the test, don't worry") we worked out the answer.

It wasn't about what was on the test, but rather that learning was the important part, the critical part.

I can't agree with you more about mass media and facts! I have a hard time finding out the facts on either side of the fence. The politicians are flipping around like fish out of water trying to say what the pollsters think they should be saying. Lots of people seem to get their "fact" checking from sources that are bias to their side. There doesn't seem to be a source that is neutral. Obama was being interviewed and was talking about his faith and he said Muslim faith, not Christian faith and the interviewer corrected him like you would someone practicing a speech. Why didn't the interviewer ask him to explain that? I'm sure there are statements like that McCain has made that no one has called him on. Why aren't they making them explain themselves and asking good questions? I'm very frustrated this election ( ... )

I tried to google him and couldn't find him. I expect he's savvy enough to keep himself un-google-able if he's still alive. But your reply made me think about rewriting this and sending it to the school to use in the alumnae mag...
