There's a Scottish expression "bidey-in" - to bide means to stay/to remain, so a "bidey-in" is a live-in partner of any type.

I like it, but it has more of a stay-at-home connotation. I want more of a mutual commitment thing. "Partners" is in the process of passing into the vernacular, but I think it lacks style!

Hey Brinian,
I'm married, and I'm outraged. Why should anyone hold in-equal protection of law, simply because of sexual preferences.

*Gets out soapbox*

Montana is much worse, though. My co-worker filled Medical Power of Attorney papers with both of our local hospitals, but even now isn't entirely certain that his husband would be allowed to make decisions on his behalf.

*next rant*

Last summer, two young men were walking together downtown when they were assaulted by several teens with baseball bats. The assailants were shouting "F***ing fags", but homosexuality is not protected under Montana Hate Crimes Laws.

But the truly chilling part is that Hate aspect of this crime was discounted by Law Enforcement because the victims were not actually gay.
