Happy Birthday, Colton

Colton turned 13 today!  Happy Birthday to my beloved, neurotic, perfect, wonderful, idiot boy :-)  It is my tradition to post a soppy email about how much I love my dog on his birthday, but in past years, posting that to the beardielist has drawn negative comments, so I've chosen to post his birthday paean here where I can delete any negativity ( Read more... )

Hi Barb.
What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful dog!
I'm glad you posted about this to BDL so I could come read it.
You're a good person and I'm glad we know you!

Cheers

Happy Birthday Colton! His little sheepie is too cute ...

Thank you. The sheepie was one of the things he got as loot for one of his herding HITs. That week he brought home more loot than Brin for the first time! Brin's always bringing home stuff from shows to the point where I bring an extra carton to put it in for the trip home so it won't get squashed. That time I overflowed the usual carton and had Colton's stuff stacked up on top of the dog crates!

Obviously I'm doing something wrong, I don't need a 'booty box' to haul my dogs' winnings home wherever we go ... :-)

At regional specialties, they hand out a lot of stuff. And nationals too. Both boys usually manage to place at least in their agility and obedience classes. Before Brin finished and while he was still young enough for sweeps, it was totally out of control. Brin would win something for his sweeps class, for Best in Sweeps (or Best Op in Sweeps), then he'd win or place in his class, win something for WD or RWD, then something else for BOW. Meanwhile Colton would have won or placed in his obedience, rally and agility classes. The first time this happened, Brin was 14 months and it was the national - the plaques and statuettes were huge. Colton brought home a whole set of little curio boxes for agility and obedience that year. I needed a shipping box to get it all home safely in the trailer. It was a shock to someone who rarely (as in hardly ever) even placed in all-breed trials Exc. B agility with Mr. Consistent-But-Slow. It's definitely a specialty phenomenon.

Many happy returns to Colton on his lucky thirteenth birthday! What a great testament to a long loving relationship. Sigh. Aren't dogs, and especially beardies, wonderful.
