Very nice pictures of his cuteness. Is there an official name for the nifty herding rake? I never knew I had herding equipment right here in my garage....
"rake" :-) You just need something to get in their line of sight and redirect them. Most people start with a stock stick and move up to something more intrusive if the puppy doesn't mind the little bitty stick. T had the rake out already because her puppy who is 5 weeks older has started pulling feathers off duck tails...
BTW, do dogs normally herd ducks other than at herding tests/trials? And those really hot-shot herding dogs should try herding cats (I've heard that cats don't clump well).
Ducks are pretty hard for people to move around. I've done it and it sucks. Having a dog to help is really great. You do have to keep wings clipped though. My dogs do move the cats on occasion. Mostly just walk ups into corners or onto the counters :-)
You might be surprised. I thought at this point Brin would still be trying to kill Eri, but he's remarkably mellow about the whole thing. Eri adores both Colton and Brin. Colton is feeling a bit better and has told Eri off several times in the last few days which just makes the hero worship worse. Brin has actually been seen to steal toys/bully sticks from Eri and then let him steal them back...
Especially after one of the ducks flapped at him the first time. He's far more thoughtful about things than Brin was at the same age and so it's taking him a lot longer to get going 'at speed'. It's interesting.
