I've seen this all over the internet the past few weeks - written/posted by (apparently) American citizens - and it's really beginning to bug me.

"I'll give your president the same respect you gave mine."

Um... did I miss the part where we don't have the same one?

I always thought respect was something to be earned. And Obama will make mistakes, but so far he hasn't done anything to make me lose respect.

The difference I've been seeing is that people hated W as a President specifically for his failures. Obama hasn't even been in office all that long and the hatred flung his way is all about just wanting to hate him. And the quote you gave shows that mentality of pre-conceived hatred.

Sounds like one of those folks who equates people pointing out the failures of Bush and his administration as not showing respect. You're apparently not supposed to disrespect a sitting President, even if they're violating the Constitution, so this is what they're using as justification to disrespect Obama.
