Well, if a continuous stream isn't responsible for it, then the only thing I can think of is a hack attempt. Heck, the SuperGate kiddies are always talking about how easy it is to hack AJAX, aren't they? And I know there's a definite exploit in it, that allows code to be executed by third party sites via stolen credentials.

And if someone's doing that with my vid intending for me to take the fall for it, I'm gonna be all up someone's ass.

This is a streaming video you're talking about, right? In which case, multiple people can view it at the same time - as many as the bandwidth of the serving site can handle, and I'm guessing this site has lots of bandwidth. It also makes sense to me that the higher a video climbs, the more people are going to take a look at it.

There's an old saying: "There's no such thing as bad publicity". When people are talking about you, others get curious and take a look for themselves. My friend Rachael, who wrote the Stargate novel "Sacrifice Moon" saw a surge of sales on amazon after a fairly negative review of the book was posted on a popular fan site.

Under normal circumstances, I would agree with you. I'd just think that all their bad-mouthing had the exact opposite affect that they intended, and I'd secretly laugh at them.

But this is too perfect. It's exactly 76 views an hour. I don't think that could be even remotely possible if this were a natural occurrence. Somebody or something almost has to be making this happen, and that's what bothers me. Getting that many media views wouldn't bother me in the slightest; getting that many because someone else is manipulating things to make it happen - meaning those aren't real media views and no one is watching it -bothers me immensely.

That is odd. Maybe it's just a resurgence of interest brought on by the fuss over Sci-Fi wanting people to put stuff on *their* site, so folks are looking at what's on the official site?

Like I told Jo, this is too "perfect" to be natural. Someone or something has to be doing it. I'd love for it to be all about new exposure as backlash against Skiffy, but if it were, I wouldn't be the only one benefiting from it. Everyone would.

Nope, not a one. It's at 4199 now, which means I've picked up approximately 3000 media views in the past two days, and not a single one of those 3000 "people" bothered to say anything.

Fishier and fishier.

I left an imeen (?) soundtrack playing on my work computer all weekend once. I had it set on repeat, so it kept repeating and I think I drove the count up, even though I didn't mean to.

So it is possible that someone left it up and running, but still odd. Did it start on Friday?

It would have started at about midnight Thursday/Friday, from what I can tell. If I could remember exactly how many views it had Thursday morning, I could tell you exactly when it started.

And Whis said she already tried with one of her vids, leaving it streaming for a while, and the count didn't go up at all. I'm thinking that continuous streaming doesn't count, that they all have to be unique requests.

:) Thank you for that. To be honest, I'd much rather they go there. The downloadable versions are much higher quality than the streaming ones.

The discusion has turned to Veggie Tales occiasionally on a GateWorld thread and to keep it on topic I refer to your vid. (Of course it is my fault that Veggie Tales is brought up in the first place*grins*) I'm glad that I chose the right place to send people then.
