I think what bothers me the most is that this person is being lavished with praise and gettign requests for an SG-1 vid of the same nature.

That just ticks me off. I guess I just don't like seeing this happen to anyone.

The praise doesn't bother me much (I've seen much worse vids get much higer praise for having done much less).

But yeah, that one kid asking her to do an SG1 version, like there hasn't been one already for 2 1/2 years... that bothered me.

To tell you the truth, I've been waiting for this to happen. The Cantina has gotten so popular, and it's really such a fluke... I mean... it sat there for months and then suddenly it just exploded, like some freak of nature or something.

But yeah, I'm actually amazed that it took this long for someone else to try their hand at that song. I just wish she hadn't used quite so many of my ideas when she did it.

It's a blatant copy of your idea. A bad one at that. However, others could argue that other vidders use a lot of the same songs, themes, etc.

Turn it into a win-win for yourself and use it as an opportunity to plug your own stuff, and let the quality-by-comparison speak for itself. Being publicly pissy about it will only make people sympathize with the idea-vampire. Take the high road and outshine the biatch. *eg*

Well... as always, JoJo, that's a fantastic idea. Would that I hadn't succumbed to my first impulse, which was insult her in a backhanded way. :)

It was the "make an SG1 version" comment that really bothered me... well, that and the other guy bitching and pissing about me putting mine behind a password.

If I hadn't commented already, I think I'd go into detail about how the original Cantina's popularity was a fluke, born of lucky timing (I released that amidst the hailstorm of Star Wars rip... er... homages) and relevance. That it was in depth-knowledge of both Stargate and Star Wars that made it possible to match scenes from one to descriptions of the other. That she has absolutely no parallels between the two, which are key in a parody like this, and that she's not actually mocking anyone or anything, because she didn't draw any direct comparisons between the two.

*sigh*

Why do I always come up with my best retorts (literally) a day late?

Really? I wasn't aware of any others. I just remember seeing yours and thinking it was one of the best and FUNNIEST music vids I'd ever seen in any fandom. "Fluke" my @$$! ;-)

Anyway, artistic arguments won't win you cool points with the "OMG hAhaAHA" types. Make yours freely available and let hers be a mere beacon, leading others to the brilliant light of your glorious vids.

Or, er, something like that.

I take it this Kavanagh guy is the "Jonas" of Atlantis? I mean, I don't watch SG:A at all, so maybe that's why it's not funny to me... but then again, I've had people who've never watched a single episode of Stargate who've still told me The Cantina is one of the funniest things they've ever seen...

Kav isn't that bad. self rightous and an annoying jerk, and not in the good way that Rodney is. But he's not all that bad... :)

Your version is *still* able to make me laugh, and I don't know how many times I've watched it. It works because SG-1 was *so* ripping off Star Wars at that time, and because the show had been around for so many episodes and had so much mythology that you could draw a lot of parallels for the funny.

About the only parallel I buy with Atlantis is Sheppard as a Han Solo-type. Maybe Ronon as his Chewbacca, but I don't think we've seen enough of the two of them hanging out in puddle jumpers for that to really work. Other than that: Elizabeth as Leia, no. Rodney as Luke, no. I adore the guy, I really do, and I loved Astolat's version of him as a Jedi Knight, but no. And Ford as Darth Vader?

It didn't work for me at all. But it did make me want to watch yours again.
