I got this link from ibroketuesday and I just... I've got nothing. There are honestly absolutely no words to describe what I'm feeling right now. And that's just from reading about it. The men that had to live it, I just... I can't even imagine.

What?

Wait, even with the horror of being forcebally separated, they sold their home too? Is that even legal?

That is fucking disgusting. And in CA?? How can people be so ignorant in this day and age?? It's not like any of these 'people' did anything for personal gain, at least I don't see how (but then I don't have a mind for that shit) so why the fuck would they care? People can put anyone they want down on those papers, doesn't have to be family. This is beyond me. I can't get my head around it. Poor Clay, loosing the last three months. And poor Harold, he was alone when he died. Another sad thing about this is the county and all being sued can delay and delay until Clay dies. This is so bad. I just.. grrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can only hope that Obama's directive to Health and Human Services to prevent this sort of shit gets done quickly.

This was against their civil and human rights, straight up. Torture, if you want to get down to the heart of it. How could all the "do no harm" healthcare professionals allow this? I really have to boggle over the number of people who had to go along with this, just to keep two gay men from comforting each other as one of them is in their last days, leaving the other homeless.

Also makes me wonder if they had some family involved in the situation, who pushed things along. "Blood before love" is pretty much the de facto legal position.

That's horrible, but mostly I can't get over how WEIRD it is. I grew up in Sonoma County, and it's quite a liberal, gay-friendly place. My parents' congresswoman is easily one of the most liberal congresspeople in the House (according to this analysis, she's the fourth most liberal rep), and one of their state reps is himself gay.

I'm not saying it's perfect, but it's not exactly a bastion of homophobia, you know? I'm scratching my head at how this could have happened.
