I just loved Gabriel so so much. I mean, I always liked the Trickster, because even though he was a bad guy, he was a "good" bad guy; he only killed assholes. And he liked Dean from the start (and said so more than once, until Dean tried to kill him), and I always, always thought Mystery Spot was more about him trying to help Sam than it was about him finding a hundred different ways to kill Dean.
What would be interesting, though, is what happens after Cas takes Gabe back to Sam and Dean, and tells them that he's going to be working with them. Now *that* would be the episode to see.
Back when I first started watching, when I was only up to the middle of S2, I started thinking about the whole brotherly love thing as it applied to Sam and Dean, and it occurred to me than that the angels/demons angle was an interesting direction to go (before I knew that Kripke had gone there).
I mean, Sam and Dean may think they've got the brotherly love market cornered, but the concept originated with the angels and demons. One of the reasons that I like the storyline as much as I do is because of the constant brotherhood theme that runs through it.
And I think adding Gabriel as a recurring character would be a totally awesome idea. With Castiel is so firmly set on the rebelling against his family path, searching for God and trying to stop Lucifer no matter what, I think it would be incredibly interesting to have another character that just wants the fighting to be over and sincerely wants for his family to survive.
Wow... he's so much like Dean and Sam both, it's no wonder that he liked them when he met them.
A lot of people were saying that thinking of the Biblical Gabriel through the Trickster angle was amusing them; I was the exact opposite way. Looking at what the Trickster became while knowing what Gabriel had been, to me, was painful.
And I just completely fell in love with him last night, which I never saw coming.
There was so much about that ep that I loved. Of course, we all started out laughing our asses off but by the end, as Show is wont to do, my heart was shattered into a million tiny little pieces.
And yes, Gabriel was angry, but there's one part where he looks at Dean, and there are tears in his eyes, just thinking about what his brothers have to do, and how tired he is of it all. Gabriel's name means "God is my strength," and that really showed last night. Without his father, he really is lost and hurting.
And I love the brotherhood story with the angels. It's always been one of my favorite Bible themes.

You've encompassed all the brother vs brother layers in the show and used unexpected characters with which to show it. The dialog works well.
And you gave us hope at the end! That's the best part--thank you!
