Why our president is silent

With everything that's come out of Iran in the past few days, a lot of people are wondering where our president stands. Does he agree with them, does he support them, will we support them if they ask us to ( Read more... )

Listening to NPR in the car on my way home from work today, they did play a sound bite from a speech Obama gave. If I weren't driving I probably would have noticed where and when it took place. He pretty much said what you did, that they are aware and are watching. He also added that they felt any U.S. involvement would do more harm than good at the moment. Last night Jon Stewart showed a clip of Hillary Clinton making a short speech that said pretty much the same thing.

I think a lot of people are still too used to the Bush regime with an attitude of "let's go kick 'em while they're down!" Which probably isn't helped by the Republican war engine constantly still revving itself for more confrontation.

I heard McCain went and put his foot in his mouth tonight, too, but I'm too busy trying to keep up with what's coming out of their country to go track down what a political has-been in ours is saying.

Cheney hasn't piped up yet, has he? I keep waiting for him to pop up and take credit for this whole thing.

I want to believe that it's a just a difference in leadership styles, but I'm not feeling it as much as I want to. And I think I agree with you; if we were still under Dubya's dubiousness, we'd already be on the ground there (note that I'm not saying we aren't... he'd just be a hell of a lot more public about it).

Totally unrelated, but I walked by a bunch of LaRouche douchenozzles the other day who had plastered pictures of Obama with a Hitler moustache all over their table. Apparently socializing health care is ... the same thing as Nazism.

Douches invoked Godwin and probably don't even know it.

LaRouche? As in Lyndon (Lindon? Lendon?) LaRouche?

As in the dude who wanted to drive tanks down the street in Detroit in the 80s?

They still exist?! I thought they went out with legwarmers and New Coke.

Well, I'd rather have a president who watches and waits and doesn't shoot off his mouth crazily about stuff he knows nothing about using inflammatory language. *g*

I never envy him his job, but in this particular case, I especially don't.

I can't even imagine how hard it has to be to not say anything about this. The biggest citizen-driven human-rights protest since Tiananmen Square, and he can't even open his mouth. I'd be going absolutely insane.
