Swiss Olympic Still Confused Over Theft Of Cheese

Officials in charge of catering at the House of Switzerland in Sochi expected to sell 40 kilos of raclette cheese a day, but the dish proved unexpectedly popular among visitors and athletes alike. So much so that by day 10, hopefuls were getting Out of Cheese errors. Officials promptly ordered 800 more kilos of the stuff to be shipped to Russia,

The new "caviar"? If you hear about it being sold for outrageous amounts of money, you'll know.... Hope the guy driving the truck is ok. Dying over cheese would be fairly ridiculous.

Didn't really follow the Olympics this year, but I thought the Swedish men's goalie played an admirable game alone against the Canadian men's hockey team in the gold medal game. The guy should've worn ALL of the team's silver medals!

I was more interested in the women's hockey, because of our bronze medal prospects (we got it). Heard on TV:

Anchorman in the studio in Switzerland: "By the way, you're not allowed to diss [swiss goalie] Florence Schelling, she's my auto repairman's secretary!"
Commentator Live From Sochi: "I wouldn't dream of it even if she weren't!"

The US was choking all over the place. Even if I cared about the Olympics this year, I think any nationalistic pride would've been beaten down, for the most part. I mean, I was rooting for Latvia in 4-man bobsled. I was all goooo Latvia (although, I was misled by the announcing...I thought they had never won a medal before, but it was just in that event...it put a bit of a damper on my enthusiasm - ALL THE LIES AND MISTRUTHS).

So, no official women's pro hockey programs in Switzerland, huh? That 's pretty cool, though...auto repair secretary by day, world-class goalie by night!

About my last post, I wasn't ignoring you, it's just that LJ still hasn't sent me the comment notification!

I was feeling kinda-sorta sorry for the US men's hockey team in the match for the bronze. I wanted to give them one of those Gold Star You Tried badges, only they totally didn't even try. At least they showed up? I also noticed that the US tallies medals differently than almost everyone else. They do it by number of medals, everyone else does it by type of metal + number of each. I looked it up and they're both legit, it was just a bit weird.

Yeah, the Latvians were so cool. And I'm old enough to have seen the Rasta Rockets movie in the theaters, it was nice to see them still competing.
