Good weekend, all? I hope so. I spent part of my Sunday sprinting on Google Hangouts with Tami, Cedar, and Kathy. This month’s contest will play host to a few different sprint events for those of you who need the exercise, or just thrive on prompt writing. Conveniently enough, it’s prompt writing I’d like to discuss.

Favorite Prompts

It depends on the prompt itself. Some years ago, we had a month (or two?) of Visual Prompts -- Paintings with no text. I loved them and did some very good work as a result. I also remember a video prompt that was an anime clip with a man and a woman fighting blindfolded. I wrote a free verse piece describing the action.

Strangely enough, though I am a musician, I have not responded to the musical prompts with pieces I thought were as good as paintings or video. I also loved Kathy's photos for the December mini-contests.

So -- I guess I respond to visual prompts well. And word prompts that are easy for me to visualize.
