Nooo

The simple truth is this, while others and I have had great idea collaberations together our styles, the ultimate visions, etc don't mesh, and that is perfectly fine.
My hubby and I come up with ideas for his storytelling games, but he tells them.
My brother and I come up with crazy stuff, but he's very world intense, slow going, etc.  I'm not. We're really great at handing off the line to whomever we feel will be the best to present it, and if it doesn't happen, whatever. We have our own projects.

I also know that things I work on become my babies. I am very invested, very Mama Bear. I know enough to not subject people I care about to that madness intimately.

That's part of the reason I had to take my big project and walk. Mine was the only passion left for it. Fortunately, the former partner in question is very willing to sign over her portion of the intellectual property and let me run with it.

I collaborated with my adopted brother last November during NaNoWriMo. That sounds great -- except he is in PA, I'm in NJ. We wound up e-mailing back and forth and that just did not lend itself to a good product. This is funny because I was talking to him today and I said "The only way we are doing that is WITHOUT a deadline and making a dedicated 2 - 4 hours per week a Skype call where we have the stuff in front of us and discuss it in real time."

So -- my advice is -- don't do a collaboration unless you can speak to your collaborator in real time.

Just my experience. YMMV!

Well! My current collaborator is my significant other, so I see him in real time and we text constantly. That, however, does not prevent him from driving me up the wall.
