Today, We Made a Salve

So Lex and I made a calendula salve this morning.  We'd grown, harvested, and dried the calendulas, chamomile, and lavender earlier in the season - even the beeswax came from our neighbor - but today we actually put everything together.  So far, it looks and smells great and we have more dried flowers, so we'll do more on Thursday.  The salve is ( Read more... )

I won't lie: I had to Google what a calendula was! xD

The flowers themselves are very pretty. Here's hoping the salve works!

Yes, we did. In fact, we used beeswax from my neighbor's bees. Of course, that meant that we had to purify it ourselves which resulted in a big, black gooey mass of boiled bees.

Do you have any suggestions for alternatives to beeswax?

Not really. Nothing local that will set it the same. Coconut oil can be used but it will be runny in the hot parts of the year.
