A Case of the Mondays

Howdy, y'all!

Welcome to Friday which, functionally and as far as work is concerned, is my Monday. Another week lies ahead, but that's okay. Oddly, I rather enjoy having Friday as my Monday. Why? Because, back in the day when I worked in an office or even taught high school, Mondays sucked. Seriously. Everyone seemed to have "a case of the Mondays."Read more... )

I'm a Monday-through-Friday, 9-to-5 girl, so I guess that makes me traditional. I work 40 hours a week, eight per day with an hour for lunch. I come in at 8 AM and stay till 5 PM. I could take only a half-hour lunch and thus come in half an hour later or leave half an hour sooner, but my diabetes testing alone can take up to 15 minutes, so if I only had a 30-minute lunch, that would only leave me another 15 minutes to eat and relax. I prefer having the full hour for that, especially on busy days. On the very rare occasion when I'm super-busy, I'll eat while I continue working, but I think that's only happened twice in the two and a half years I've had this job. It's really the only kind of work schedule I've ever had, so I can't really compare it to other schedules or honestly say if I like it or not. It's just the way it is. I don't think I'd enjoy working on Saturdays or Sundays, although I can see the benefit of having days in the middle of the week off. I have another LJ friend who has a schedule similar to yours, and she seems to ( ... )

right now i work m-w and do other free-lance stuff at random other times. mostly i've been more of a m-f 9-5 kind of gal. but for a while there in nyc i worked crazy hours, the craziest of which was thursday through sunday overnights. so monday at 7 was my friday night, lol. i remember stopping at the barnes & noble which was one of few places open that early and buying a bootsy collins cd and talking to the guy in the store about how it was my friday night and i was going to go home and listen to it and celebrate the start of my 'weekend,' lol. friends who worked the same schedule took great pleasure in going to a diner at that time and getting a burger and a beer and laughing at other people's horrified expressions. you know, the people who can't imagine that some people work different hours. i agree that it's kind of fun to be on a different schedule. although i was working at a law firm, so even though it was much quieter on the off hours, it did mean that the people who were working in the wee hours and on the weekends ( ... )

I'm a shift worker, but I work three 12-hr shifts in a row during the week, alternating two weeks of nights, three weeks of days. To a lot of people it might seem like I slack off when it comes to working, but there's a lot for me to do when I'm there, there's a lot to learn, memorize and get right/wrong and there's often a lot of over time going on.

So yes, I have an unconventional schedule. XD But I do get quite a bit of time off, and usually it's the opposite of when I need it. Murphy's Law, you know.
