LOL. I'm sure if there were ever a song called "Kristen", I'd hate it, too. That's why I feel sorry for any girl whose name happened to get used in a song. You are included in that list. I especially feel bad when they get the "Hey, did you know there's a song...?" question that you pointed out.
There is a well-known Russian song called "Alexandra" that is actually pretty good. But I couldn't appreciate it until a few years after moving to the US where no one knows it except the fucking annoying homesick immigrants :)
Why is it that people think that a girl they've just met would LOVE to hear a song with her name? Practically complete strangers do that, the people who've just learn you name!
Roxanne... That was my birthname. No fucking joke. It's annoying, people can't sing it, it's unusual, the song is about a prostitute. Kids in my high school altered it and called me "Roxman" to make fun of me. Yeah, worst name ever. I cringe every time it comes on the radio.
And, yeah, it is interesting that that song is about a prostitute. I actually rather like it - when Sting sings it - but then, again, I'm not named Roxanne. In general, guys are lucky with songs. There are very few songs with guys names in them. (That, said, it would be suck to be named Mickey.)
OH HEY DID YOU KNOW THERE'S THIS BEATLES SONG WITH YOUR NAME IN IT AND THERE'S NO WAY YOU COULD POSSIBLY HAVE KNOWN BEFORE I TOLD YOU WHAT WITH BEING IN YOUR 30S AND ALL AND THE SONG BEING TOTALLY FAMOUS AS WELL!11!!
I share your pain, and every time I meet a Michelle we get to bond over each being a Beatles song HEY DID YOU KNOW???.
Yeah, it is! ;) But it also isn't as famous, so people feel super-inclined to enlighten me about it existing. I get to one-up them, though -- my birthday (day and month) are the same as the day Julia Lennon died! No connection there, though; my mom is a Stones fan.
