An aquittal can't save you from the truth, Kelly Volpe.

I am sickened and saddened as I read this story. This is all I can think:

The truth is, Kelly, that with or without a jail sentance and with or without being able to show a blood test in court that proves you are a pathetic drunk, the fact remains that you killed your own child.

You took this beautiful creature, happy and cheerful and darling, ( Read more... )

911 Call fracturedbethy August 11 2006, 18:37:33 UTC
I am so sorry about the loss of Abigail. I live just a few blocks from the crash site. I just read that a person called 911 and followed the truck for TWENTY MINUTES while talking to a dispatcher. The person told the dispatcher the driver of the truck was swerving off the road, drinking from a bottle while driving and HAD A LITTLE GIRL IN THE FRONT SEAT. When the person asked why officers were taking so long to check it out the dispatcher said "It's Friday night. We're busy ( ... )

Believe me, I've already seen it. brightspot August 11 2006, 18:48:31 UTC
And if Mr. Volpe doesn't sue the living beejesus out of the Columbus Police Department or whomever mans the 911 system, then there is no justice in the world.

See my previous posts in regards to this subject:

I have a copy of the original article, with the following words highlighted, hanging at my desk, and have since the day she died:

One driver followed the truck for nearly 20 minutes before the crash, all the time reporting its route to the operator.

Dispatcher: We haven't dispatched an officer because we don't have one available in that area. It's Friday night; we're busy."

That answer was completely unacceptable. Unless every cop in the city was stopping an axe murderer from killing people on mass scale, there was NO EXCUSE for them to not intercede on this child's behalf.

Isn't It Wonderful? anonymous August 14 2006, 01:38:22 UTC
That we have a system which provides such protection for the accused?

The original accident is bad enough. Yet the public then has to sit through this nonsense in which the defendant, through her lawyer, goes to any length possible to disclaim responsibility and avoid punishment.

Im surprised the defense even admits she was the driver of the vehicle.

Just out of curiousity, has her husband had anything to do with her or her defense since the accident?

Yeah, it's a *wonderful* system. Ooo, watch out there, I think my sarcasm may have dripped on your shoe.

I don't think Mr. Volpe has in any way been involved in her defense. I haven't been able to find anything about him in any stories. He has had family events that he's invited school officials to, but because it was summer and school was out, Abby's friends and families weren't really involved in it.

Lorelei made a sunflower arrangement for him in memory of Abigail, which she gave him at the funeral. He sent a thank you note afterwards that simply broke my heart. He spoke of the life that his wife had robbed him of...not just of Abby's, but of his own. I keep it where I can see it, as a constant reminder of everything I have learned from this experience.

He loved his daughter. He stayed with his wife in an effort to make his daughter happy, to provide her with the life her little heart desired. I can only imagine how devastated he is. It's so sad. :o(
