Yeah, poor Sam, finding more evidence (at least in his own mind) that he's a freak. It's so sad and so in character. I kept picturing young Colin Ford.
Like Sam, I liked being alone and reading although I think at 11 I wouldn't have been very self-sufficient. (We know Sam and Dean were.)
Ah, thank you! I'm glad you found it in-character, and that it made you think of Colin's performance! I saw him at a con recently, and he is a very cool kid.
I too liked just being alone and reading! (and cooking from kids' cookbooks!) I THOUGHT I'd be totally self-sufficient, but yep, not so much.
Nice to meet you--I don't think I've ever seen you around before. Welcome to lj fandom.
I love this, it was sad how much Sam liked being alone at first and the chance to be normal - "Everything was finally going right. He wished Dad and Dean were always gone like this." I can relate to Sam as I always feel like that when I get a chance to be 'home alone', but it's sad he felt like this at 11. It was such a shame that the kind neighbor broke his bubble and made him realize he couldn't have 'normal', poor Sammy.
I DEFINITELY relate to you and Sam enjoying being home alone--that was always the best when I was a kid, when my parents were gone. Which most of the time they were, fortunately. I'm just glad to finally get to live with a person I DON'T wish wasn't around! ;-]
