As you already know, this made me laugh and cry, and. It is. AMAZING. So good. I just adore these characters-- they felt so real to me, and they made this world feel so real. And Angel's appearance! how it healed Frank, even though Frank may not have realized it, and he hurt Angel, but it's so Angel's character not to react to that... just, gaah. Awesome.
I LOVED getting to see a Ground Zero description of what it was like to see people disappear; this is our first instance of that! And the idea that we don't KNOW which Detroit really disappeared. And the human connection-- the lilacs that smell like pine trees. <3 I couldn't not cry when I read that. Again.
This makes me so jazzed for our challenge! TRICYCLEMAN LIVES FOREVER. <3 <3 <3
Yes!! I loved the idea of this cold, emotionless villain/monster who looks like an angel actually serving the purpose of an angel in someone's life, healing him--because really, Angel Man is the only one who could have healed that part of what ailed Frank.
I'm glad you liked the description of people disappearing! Just everything you say touches my heart so deeply. <3 <3 <3
I absolutely love your description of that moment of disappearance, and the two-way mirrorness about it. <333 And these two boys trying to make their way--especially the idea that, even if you can program anything, people will still complain about the base materials; sand into gold was still once sand, fries once weeds. Angel Man's appearance here, and the way he intervenes (by not himself intervening, really) in their lives, especially Frank's, is such a wonderful motif as well! Lovely work. :D
Ah, I'm glad you liked the description of the moment the Cataclysm happened! I regretted writing it a bit, solidifying it like that, in case someone had another idea for how they wanted it to be/look/feel, so I'm glad people liked that. :-)
I just can't get enough of writing about Angel Man and the way he's sort of more of a force of nature than a human being at this point.
This was fabulous. Such a great look at how lost those left could be and the ways they made new connections. And Angel Man talking about the lead up to the Cataclysm. How he and others at Life Hack were all made to be other than they were. Chilling.
Ah, thank you so much! These were all my favorite things about the fic/the things I was most keen to express, so I LOVE hearing you enjoyed that stuff. <3
