One thing that DIDN'T surprise me as I was writing this story was how much he got laid.
I was just talking to a friend about this recently. How, when Sam was soulless, so all the self-esteem issues and conscience and guilt were gone, he was screwing like a madman. So really, I think he's the more sexually inclined of the two brothers.
That's a really good point, that it's his self-restraint and self-awareness (and desire for it to mean something) that prevents him from engaging in casual sex most of the time. Dean, of course, would never admit Sam's the more sexually inclined one! ;-)
I loved this! Seeing Sam in Stanford, not automatically fitting in, getting himself a platonic gang of nerd girls, trying to be normal, not getting cultural references. I liked this a lot.
I can really relate to Sam in this fic and find it absolutely believable. When someone is deprived of social contact their social skills are going to be affected, they won't understand how to react in social situations, and I think you've explored this really well
( ... )
I'm glad you can relate to Sam here--ME TOO. (In fact, I took a lot of this from my own experiences going to college ... minus the cringey scene, fortunately.)
The bit where Sam cries when he has sex for the first time is really beautiful.
Eee, I'm so glad you said this--I wasn't sure how people would react to that, and I'm pretty sure you're the only one who mentioned it, so I'm happy someone felt about it the same way I did! The starved for female affection thing came to me as I was writing it, just trying to get into Sam's head. I felt like it gave me a lot of insight into what makes dear Sam tick.
Thanks for a beautiful comment, so glad you enjoyed this one!!
