Podfic: A Marine Aubade, by septembers_coda

Sep 22, 2014 14:07

My first podfic! septembers_coda asked me to podfic one of her fics, and, well, even though this one involved singing (! -- only a little, though), I picked it because it hits me so deep. I had to pause now and then throughout recording to weep softly--seriously. I edited those parts out, but you can probably still tell ( Read more... )

This was gorgeous, and read with such emotion I found myself choking up. You have such a soothing, expressive voice, and I was so happy to find this on a night I was almost too tired to read anything.

Augh, your comment makes me so happy!! (As your comments always seem to. <3) I was worried maybe it was too impassive, so I'm so glad it sounded (and made you! :-D ) emotional. (And what a great idea, to listen to podfic when you're too tired to read!)

Thanks, dear. <3

What a wonderful fic that I'd missed, and you read it beautifully. Of course I was listening while running errands, and had to wipe tears from my eyes before I walked into the pet store :)

Oh, what a wonderful comment. Truly, there is no greater compliment than to hear I made you cry!

And isn't the fic amazing?? So haunting and heartbreaking--my very favorite kind. Thanks for commenting.

Aw, thanks so much! Dean's monologue was the part I was most looking forward to reading; his character's voice is so specific and informal and slangy, I knew it'd be a ball to read.

I'm so glad you enjoyed! Thanks for coming and listening. :-)

Your voice. Is so magnificent!! And so professional. When I hit play on the file it felt like I was listening to one of the fiction spots on This American Life--so not even just professional, but the cream of the crop. Seriously, I can't stress enough how phenomenal I found this recording; I know it's going to sound over-superlative to the point where surely I must be exaggerating. But I promise you I am not! I think I mentioned to you earlier that I don't listen to a lot of fic because I'm a much better reader than I am a listener (otherwise my attention tends to wander and I space out). But this had me from the introduction, one hundred percent. Your voice is beautiful, and you have this bright, clear way of reading that's not dry, but neither does it get overblown, even when emotions abound. You sold me utterly on Sam's POV in the first half, and then you sold me all over again in the second half with Dean--you made it feel so incredibly Dean somehow. I dunno if it was the cadence or the pace of the words, but it was perfect ( ... )

Aw, honey, you don't know how much this comment means to me; I've been in such a crisis of confidence lately, especially relating to creative things, and this helped SO MUCH. It also means a lot to me because I've really worked on my voicework skills, kind of all my life, and felt like I'd truly gotten somewhere with it, and your comment makes me feel like maybe I really have! Everything you say in this comment is just SO what I needed to hear. And, such a wonderful compliment that I grabbed you from the introduction. :-D ( ... )

Ugh, I'm sorry that you're feeling that way, bb, because that sucks out loud. :( I'm in a similar space of mind at the moment, so we can commiserate together. <3333

But as far as confidence goes, you should have all the confidence in the world when it comes to your voicework! All that work has definitely paid off, bb, because like I said earlier, this is amazing. I actually hit 'play' with the intention of putting away my dishes before sitting down to listen, and I... never actually got around to putting away the dishes until after the recording ended, because I didn't want to leave my seat!

This was great! Especially the emotional "Sammy, come back" speech, I could totally see it being delivered by Dean, single tear and all.
