Lady, this is AWESOME. I can so, so so relate to Dorothy, that's exactly how I was raised as well (though the religious aspect wasn't strong) and it's also exactly how everyone expects you to behave over here as well. I thought you conveyed her emotions perfectly. Poor girl, so scared of giant Sam and Dean with his cursing. (I kind of burst out laughing when Sam came out of the shower in a towel and THAT freaked her out too) I loved her transformation here, and I loved that she made her own choice regarding what she should do with her life. And I loved Sam and Dean in it for being so Sam and Dean and so sweet as well. Good job all around! :)

Ee, I was so happy to get this comment!! I was SO hoping someone else could relate to Dorothy. I'm so glad you felt like her emotions were believable in that situation! That's what I was going for. And it's nice to know there's someone else out there who was raised like this. It's crazy how this world treats women sometimes, eh? Glad you liked. <3

SO TRUE. Ugh, and the struggle becomes between who you were raised as and who you really are.

I really, really wanna know which summergen is yours now XD Can't wait for the reveals :D

Loved her reaction to Sam in a towel--who else would ever do that? And the way they seemed so evil! Of course they would, esp. to a naive young girl.

hee hee! Well ... we all might scream, but not for the same reasons. ;-)

Riveting story, seeing the boys truly from an outsider's POV--and I was happy with the ending, though worried if Dorothy would be able to actually get away from her parents. I'd actually like a sequel or epilogue to know she did make it...maybe the boys could connect her with someone so she's not completely on her own...I worry that she's still too naive to just jump out of her sheltered life...

I worry about her, too ... but I figure if we're worried, Sam and Dean would be doubly so, and would make sure she had some kind of support system rather than throwing her out there on her own. That's how I imagine it, anyway. Thanks for another great comment.

Wow--this was a great read! I love that we get to really know the character, and watch her change and I'm so glad you did it slowly, in little bits and pieces. It was a pleasure seeing her grow. And looking at Sam and Dean through other eyes is always fun, made even more so because at the beginning she was positive, right down to the bone, that she'd fallen in with EVIL. How sweet is Sam in this? Oh gosh, he was just wonderful, exactly as I see him. :) And Dean, yes, with all the tact of a runaway train but a sweetheart deep down.

Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful story!

Eee, I'm so glad that's how you see him--me too!! He's just so kind and understanding. I loved how sweet and patient he is with Dorothy, too, and *drool* Sam ... she doesn't know what she's missing, not being able to appreciate all he has to offer. ;-)

EVIL Winchesters!! If you didn't know them as we do, I sometimes think it might be pretty hard to see them any other way ....

So glad you enjoyed this story. Thanks for an awesome comment!

Was just mining your master fic post-- I first looked at it for inspiration, cuz I was making my own, :-) but then I got sucked into the fics! I love, love, LOVE this one, so much. Dorothy just... has this corner of my heart where she'll always live. She is so vividly real, and such a wonderfully realized symbol of the conflicts women in our society face: past values vs. modern ones, and one of the things I love about this fic is that it doesn't say one set of values is better than the other. What it says is that you have to be yourself, even if it is incompatible to the life you live or the way you were raised. Watching Dorothy come to recognize herself through seeing what Sam and Dean truly are... just such an amazing reading experience.

Just one in a list of your amazing triumphs of fanfiction. LOVE. <3

Ohh ... thank you so much for this beautiful comment. This story is one of the very closest to my heart, and it doesn't resonate for many people, so I LOOOOVE that it resonates for you. <3

As always, your comment is so right on target and beautifully put, I want to just let it stand as-is, because it's perfect.
