i was thinking of going to a Samhain thing for the first time, but ended up just sitting around like a slob. oh well. I love Halloween, there is such a super-charged energy on that night
I can see where people get the evil and demon related thoughts from. Forget modern day trick-or-treating, or the fancy dress. Both Beltaine and Samhain are the times when the veil between the worlds of the living and dead are at their thinnest. We celebrate life on Beltaine, and death on Samhain.
I can see how the celebration of the dead can be misconstrued as evil or devil related.
I get offended by all the commercialism of Halloween (though thankfully our Samhain isn't at the same time as our halloween being the Southern Hemisphere), it jus cheapens a day I consider a sacred time to honour our ancestors and beloved dead. It's a time of reverence and reflection, not frivolity. Celebration? Yes. Comericialism? Hell no!
