Upcoming FKFic-L War

Jul 23, 2010 11:15

An FKFic-L War game is in the offing for the first time in several years.  I'm not actively following the developments on ForKni-L myself, but I wanted to help spread the word.  lismcdavid has made two admin posts to FKFic-L on the subject this week.  Today, she posted that the "War" filter topic will be implemented on Monday 07/26/10.  I'm guessing that ( Read more... )

I'll be curious to hear about it from your perspective, even though I don't have time to watch or play.

I apologize; I should have written more carefully! I don't plan to read this War live. I meant that I intended not to go "-war" on the list this time, as I have every time since Cinderella's War. I thought that instead I might go "digest" and save it for sometime when I wanted it.

I wish the players all the fun in the world, but I'm not up for it, myself.

During the last war, there was talk of war correspondents who would summarize the action daily. I'm really hoping they'll do that.

"War Correspondents" would be a great innovation. However, one thing that's occurred to me has been that the volume of posts we know from previous FKFic-L Wars may be incomparable with one held today; there are simply far fewer fans to be in the game.

I suspect it may be more comparable to the first War (which I have just been reading). Only about thirty people took part in that; and some of them clearly made only token posts or let others write them in, since there were around a hundred posts altogether. Downright manageable.

I'm currently staggering through War Two; and it had about 300 posts-a bit fewer than the last War six years ago. Most Wars seem to have got around the 700 mark, as far as I can tell. With over a hundred players.

You're right: there's no way the fandom can field that sort of number of participants today.

I had fun when I played in past wars, but yeah, I don't think I'd have the time to do one this time around.

Not perking some strong dark coffee? You'll be missed, I'm sure.

(Still debating whether to take part myself. I never have, and I have no tendencies towards any affiliation.)

School starts soon and there's no way I'll have time. I always had fun with my little Dark Perks though.

I'd suggest picking a faction if you're going to play. I know people have played as independants before, but factions are crazy fun. I rerember once I wrote the whole DP faction sneaking into Nick's loft (I don't remember why) but we escaped by pretending to be a flashback ;-D

In the most recent FKFic-L War, if I remember correctly, independent play was disallowed for organizational purposes (independents were asked to please play as Die-Hards, if they wouldn't choose another faction) and also the "shaded" factions and couple factions were asked to dissolve and rejoin the original character factions for the game (e.g. the Dark Knighties and the Knighties played as one team, and N&Ners had to choose to play either as Knighties or as Natpackers), again for organizational purposes, and in consideration of the much smaller number of players than in the old days.

Of course I don't know whether they will keep those rules this time.
