Here it be, this year's entry for the startrekbigbang. *collapses*

Title: Though My Soul May Set in Darkness
Characters/Pairings: McCoy/Chekov + ensemble main crew, background OCs and other pairings
Warnings: implied and remembered non-con, graphic dub con, implied underage, slavery and inherent consent issues, messing around with people’s minds, violence, non-graphic torture, aphrodisiac substances employed deviously (none of it perpetrated by the good guys), and angst. Also, pseudo!science.
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: ~60,000
Fanmixer: echoinautumn
Fanmix: Music
Artist: acquiescence_
Art link: Poster, banner, and icons
Beta(s): the eagle-eyed vellum and the queen of idea-bouncing jaune_chat
Note: This story is a sequel to We Have Loved the Stars Too Fondly…, my big bang entry from last year. I'd recommend reading that first, but there's a "previously on" at the top of this story's first part if you need it.
Summary: Chekov has recovered from a year spent in captivity after an away mission gone wrong; he’s repaired relationships with his friends and built a new love with a certain surly ship’s doctor. A new undercover mission could offer Chekov closure, but other crew members object to putting himself in danger again. Chekov knows he’s strong enough to face his fears, but can he convince those closest to him that this mission is worth the risk?

Thanks to everyone who read the We Have Loved the Stars... and then asked for this. I've been dreaming of writing this for a year, and although it's been a long, hard haul, I'm grateful for the chance to share it with ya'll. A special thanks goes out to my two betas, vellum and jaune_chat, who were very cool and encouraging. Both are extra saints for putting up with my adding 40,000 words to the story in four days. jaune_chat gets an extra shout-out for her tantalizing suggestion that caused me to change the direction of the last third of the story. Better ideas for the win!

I have a few cut scenes and some bonus material to come in the days ahead, so if that's your bag, come back after I've slept for a week.

genre: slash, chekov is for roughing up, character: dr. leonard "sexy" mccoy, star trek, fic
