Laundry room drama! (Wow, my life is exciting.)

Yes or no: in a public laundry room (ie, in an apartment complex), if there are no empty washers/dryers available, but some loads are done and their owners have not retrieved them, is it OK to take out their finished laundry and put it on the counter or in a cart, so that you can do your own ( Read more... )

On a weekend especially (when I'm sure most people have to catch up on their laundry) I think it is entirely rude to take up 6 washers. And in my experience, if you leave your laundry like that unattended past the end of the cycle--you can expect it to be moved. It could've easily been stolen out of the machine just as well as where you put it. Ugh. Some people.

And really--why go on and on with you? Okay, you touched her stuff and she didn't like it. Fine. You clearly didn't steal it or ruin it or anything. Saying something once so you know it's her's is ok (still you were in the right to do it) but going on and on is just petty and wrong.

Sorry you had to deal with that. :( Laundry sucks all the way around.

Yeah, Sunday night is prime time for the laundry room. I mean, I ended up doing 8 loads, but I spread it out over the whole day. There are 12 washers total so she was taking up half of them. :(

Laundry does suck!

6 washers at once??? What a supreme jerk move. Also if you apologize and they continue to complain then they need to get a life. But alas some people just like drama and conflict.

Also I've seen people dump other people's wet or dry clothing on the FLOOR. Now that is a jerk move.
Personally I've always watched my Laundry like a hawk.. 0_0 But I would also bring work/reading/ drawing stuff to amuse me.

On the FLOOR!? Ugh. Our floor is sooo nasty, that would be awful!

I usually go back to my apartment while the laundry is going, but I set a timer so I know when to go back.

Yes! A punch in the face!

I really prefer not to have to move wet laundry, but if there's nothing else available and I have to get my laundry done, I'll do it.

Dude. I say if you don't want your laundry touched, you stay and watch it, and change it promptly. If you don't, it's not my fault, and it's fair game. If you can't be bothered to bring a book or set a timer, you are lazy, and not entitled.

You were totally in the right, IMHO.

My question is on the six washers thing. I always debated whether it was more rude of me (or a person) to take up two washers for three to four hours, or take up six for 40 minutes and be out of everyone's hair. I always leaned toward 6, figuring that it's better for everyone. But apparently, the people in these comments disagree. Oops. ;o)

Word!

I'm kind of undecided on the six at once thing-- I guess either way, you're basically taking up the same amount of time. I generally try to do a ton of stuff at once only when the room's not busy.
