Because most fic sucks. Badly.

Well, yes, but it seems to be much, much harder to find anything approaching decent in SW. It's especially hard to find anything decent that isn't prequel-related.

Audience size, no doubt. The bigger the [area of] fandom, the better percentage of goodfic?

except that I have a hard time wrapping my head around Barney being that depressed, I liked the Bromania fic! and generally I hate fic....
